La calle de Wangfujing (王府井) - The street of Wangfujing (王府井)

Uno de los aspectos más exóticos de China son los hábitos culinarios. Va implícito que al oír la palabra China haya gente que automáticamente piense en carne de perro, gato o insectos. Siendo todos ellos un hábito desechado y convertido en mito, aun voy a comentar el aspecto de los insectos.

La calle de Wangfujing, es la principal calle comercial de Beijing, algo así como la Rambla, la Gran Vía, o aunque muchísimo más modesta, la calle Sierpes de Sevilla. Esta calle está atestada de los más suntuosos comercios, bancos y restaurantes, que contrastan con los puestecillos de comida que se aglomeran en las calles colindantes y son conocidos como el Mercado Nocturno.

En estos se cocinan deliciosos manjares y sobre todo exóticos aperitivos basados en todo tipo de insectos, haciendo creer que es algo habitual en la dieta china, cuando no se trata más que de una atracción turística, y para ello solo hay que mirar los precios con ojos como platos. Pero no deja de ser interesante, porque no hay muchas ocasiones para disfrutar de este impresionante espectáculo en los que se viven momentos divididos entre caras de tensión y muecas divertidas por la superación de un reto.

Alacranes, grillos, escorpiones, estrellas de mar, tarántulas, miriápodos, gusanos... por supuesto, todo lo más terrible e impresionante que podamos echarnos al buche es la clave del éxito para estos establecimientos. Yo en particular aún no he probado nada de esto; pero ojo, más por mi ética de no pagar 12 € por unos pinchitos de tarántula que por el pavor de probar otro tipo de proteínas con patas.

Suerte que aún es gratis hacer fotos, aunque por la cantidad de mirones que merodean los puestos, no me extrañaría que comenzasen a idear el modo de cobrar por esto. ¡Pasen, vean y prueben!

One of the more exotic aspects of China are the culinary habits. There are people, even when hear the "China" name, automatically thinking on dog meat, cat or insects. Like all of them are a forgotten habit and transformed in myth, I'm still going to talk about the insects theme.  

 The street of Wangfujing is the main commercial street of Beijing, something like "La Rambla", la "Gran Vía" or, although rather more modest, the "Sierpes" street of Seville. This street always is crowded for the most sumptuous commerces, banks and restaurants, which constrast with little food shops congregated on bordering streets and they are known like Night Market.   

In these shops are cooked a lot of delicious and exotic snacks based in all kind of insects, which it come to thing that is an habitual Chinese diet, but it's only a touristic attraction, and we can checking it watching  prices with our impressed eyes. But this is really interesting, because usually there aren't many occasions to enjoy this amazing show, where moments divided between tension and funny faces for overcoming a challenge are lived.  

Scorpions, crickets, starfish, tarantulas, myriapods, worms ... of course, all the more terrifying and impressive that we could to eat is the key to success for these establishments. I particularly have not tried any of this yet, but be careful, it is more for my internal ethics about don't pay 12 € for some tarantula skewers than to be afraid of try other kind of proteins with legs. 

 

Lucky about it still is free to take pictures, although considering the high amount of onlookers prowling food shops, it wouldn't be a surprise to me that they began to hatch out a plan to earn money with this. Come, see and try!
